Picking out a pair of sunglasses is an important decision. First you have to decide if you want to look like a movie star, an FBI agent, a biker, a pilot, etc. That’s the hard part.
The easy part is to make sure the glasses block ultraviolet rays – both UV-A and UV-B rays. And they need to block at least 99% of the suns rays. In other words: You need complete protection.
Anything less and you’ll be risking photokeratitis. Put simply, photokeratitis is sunburn of your cornea. And it can be very painful – it actually damages and kills superficial corneal cells. But as bad as that might sound, it’s not nearly as bad as the serious long-term damage you could do to your eyes from daily exposure to ultraviolet rays…
